Theory and Composition Lessons
Joanna mainly teaches from her
home in Burwell, Cambridgeshire; however she will travel should this be
preferable to the pupil.
She teaches theory at all levels. Most pupils studying music theory are doing so alongside their singing or piano lessons and prepare for ABRSM Theory Exams. Joanna uses the workbooks written by Eric Taylor and supplements these with information sheets and woorsheets that she has devised herself.
Recognising that Composition is far more than applied music theory, having studied it as part of her degree. Joanna mainly teaches Composition to supplement work for GCSE Music as it forms a major part of the curriculum. Together with the pupil, she explores a variety of compositional techniques together with the way they are used by different composers. This is used as the foundation for developing the pupil’s own compositional voice.
Lessons are charged at £42.00 per hour or £21.00 for 30 minutes for lessons in Burwell. For lessons elsewhere, travel costs are charged by agreement.
