Joanna mainly teaches from her
home in Burwell, Cambridgeshire; however she will travel should this be
preferable to the pupil.

Joanna firmly believes that anyone can sing, it just has to be
approached the right way. She teaches both adults and children,
beginners through to about Grade VIII standard. She does not believe
that music examinations are the be all and end all of life, but as
someone who has taken them appreciates them as performing opportunities
and an external method of appraisal.

Repertoire is drawn from a wide variety of sources. As a classically
trained singer, she is extremely familiar with the standard classical
repertoire, but realises that is not what everybody wants to learn.
Musical Theatre repertoire has an equally prominent place in her
teaching materials. Other songs are drawn from Folk and Pop music Music
is chosen to suit her pupils’ musical preferences and to emphasis
an aspect of technique. Care is taken to insure that all songs used are
age appropriate for the singer concerned.

As part of her degree Joanna studied a specialised course on vocal
production. The main emphasis of her teaching style is good technique.
She uses tried and tested technical exercises together with one that
she has devised herself to maximise her pupils potential.
